The Story

A thousand folds, then a wheel.

Folded paper cranes from the Crane Ceramics studio

Crane Ceramics is a small-batch pottery business based in Seattle, WA.

The name came about from an early love of making origami. As a kid, I would make origami cranes whenever I got the chance — sitting in class, or watching TV — until my fingers mastered the movements to the point that I didn't even need to look at my hands. In high school, I made over a thousand cranes from sticky notes, chasing one wish per the Japanese legend. Spoiler: the wish didn't come true. But as these things go, the journey became more important than the destination.

That love of working with my hands carried into new forms as I became an adult. My start in ceramics traces back to a distant memory — watching people transform clay on the pottery wheel after childhood swim class, and being mesmerized by it. In the middle of the pandemic, with a small pottery wheel, some YouTube videos, and a lot of patience, I got started. Since then, I've developed my skills across multiple studios and states, and I've finally reached a point where I'm proud to share my work with all of you.

Thank you for being here — excited for what the future holds with Crane Ceramics.
